Travail is a small hillside estate in Yountville, California, bordering the Stags Leap AVA. Our organic Cabernet Sauvignon was planted in 2006 and 2007 on a hill that shoots straight up from the Silverado Trail, giving our vines a west-southwest view and an enviably high exposure to the elements.
The vineyard’s steep slope, along with its shallow topsoil and hard, fractured rhyolite volcanic rock subsoil, prevents the use of machinery. Everything must be done by hand. Even the vines’ roots struggle to take hold in the rocky subsoil. But it’s precisely because of these geographic and geologic challenges that our Cabernet Sauvignon produces such nuanced and intensely flavored berries.
